Community Curling League / Adult Learn to Curl

Curling is Saskatchewan’s official provincial sport. The history of the game is traceable back to the original pioneers. The game of curling has been instrumental in the social development of many towns and cities in the province.  Curling has the advantage of being a participatory sport that invites community members from eight to eighty and older to take part.

In recent years the competitive side of the sport has received much publicity. The recreational side has not kept pace. Social interaction, health benefits through physical activity benefiting families and individuals has not been utilized. This project is intended to promote the game of curling to maximum number of members of the community.

Objective

The objective of this program is to implement a curling program, that partners the Tartan Curling Club and the Regina Community Associations, that will;

1.   Provide a facility and time for members of the community to participate in recreational curling

2.   Provided basic curling instruction for all those participating in the program.

Concept

The program will have the partners providing:

1.   The learning and experiencing of the game of curling as one of the activities offered to their membership.

2.   Administrative procedures to allow members from other community associations join easily.

3.   Curlers will join as individuals, couples wishing to curl as families or teams. The Tartan Curling Club as part of Curl Regina provides curling instruction.

4.   The Tartan Curling Club will provide organization to place individuals on teams and/or place teams into to league with teams of equal abilities

Cost

The establishing of this league on a Sunday afternoon at 7:00 PM would allow the cost to be minimal. For TEN two hour sessions of instruction and curling for half the season it will cost $80.00 per person with your Community Association Membership ($5 per family).  Costs include equipment rental, instruction and ice rental.  Family Rates Available

Dates

Both sessions will include 10 dates, for 2 hours a day.  Session ONE ran from October 19th and run into January.  Session TWO will start in January 18th at 7:00 PM and run into March.

Lessons or Rental Ice
If you are interested in lessons only, the first four dates of each session will be available as a lesson package.  Other ways to get out and try curling is Private Lessons or Public Rental Ice.  Public rental ice times vary and Private lessons will be arranged around your schedule.  Contact the Tartan Office for more information about lessons or to book some public ice times.
