Team Jones Impressive at Junior Nationals

The Tartan's Brennen Jones, Mitch Criton, DJ Kidby and Dallan Muyres of Team Jones represented Saskatchewan at the Canadian Junior Championships, February 2-10, 2008 in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.  Team Jones lost in a tiebreaker after being tied for second in the Round Robin.    

Team McVicor, the Saskatchewan Ladies Junior Champions joining Team Jones in Sault Ste Marie, lost in the final against Manitoba.  Stephanie McVicor, Kari Kennedy, Ashley Gregoire, and Cori Debert are the Saskatchewan Junior Women's reps.  The Results from this event and all the Saskatchewan Playdowns can be found at www.saskcurl.com.

Prairieland Curling Camp Scholarship
The Tam-O-Shanters Ladies Curling Club has decided to offer TWO $250 Scholarships to this summers Prairieland Curling Camp.  The Camp runs from July 6th to 9th OR July 10th to 13th, 2008 in Kindersley Saskatchewan.  To be eligible for the scholarship you must me a Tartan Junior Member OR a Tartan Curl For Kids Member in the current season.  To apply, pick up a Prairieland Curling Camp application form in the Tartan Office and return the completed form to the Tartan.  Please specify on the form that you are applying for the Tam-O-Shanter Scholarship.  The deadline to apply is April 11th at 4:00 PM.  For more information contact Wil Sinclair or the Tartan Office

Antique Show and Sale Successfull

The Tartan was busy during the Anique and Collectable Sale on May 10th and 11th.  The ARCHWAY Antique Sale ran Saturday and Sunday with great numbers.  There was over 150 tables of antiques, furnature, stamps, sports memorabilia, jewellery, collectables, coins, toys, militaria, and much more.  Organizer Ken Kopack was happy with the facility and in particular the bright lighting and lack of stairs.  The Antique show has been booked for another show in the Fall of 2009.  For more infomation on next years show contact Ken at kenk@accesscomm.ca or 545-0414. 

Curl For Kids Bonspiel

The 2008 Curl for Kids Bonspiel is over.  A special thanks to Elmer Schmidt for organizing the event and to Boston Pizza and Marks Work Wearhouse for sponsoring the Event.  Congratulations to all the teams.  The winners of the bonspiel were:

  • A-Event: Carnegie defeated Macera
  • B-Event: Williamson defeated Sim
  • C-Event: Kelley defeated Dawson
  • D-Event: Kentz defeated Beach
Masters Women

Four Tam-O-Shanter Ladies teams were at 2008 Masters Women's Provincial Curling Championship at the Shaunavon Curling Club, from March 6th to 9th, 2008.  Team McLean was tied for first in their Pool after the round robin.  They won their tiebreaker game only to be defeated in the first game of the Playoffs.  the Lee Morrison team from Saskatoon took home the Championship.  The Tam-O-Shanter teams were Liane McLean, Shirley Schmirler, Faye Shanner, Diane Bickle; Marlene Wilkinson, Noreen Leitner, Floydey Woolley, Kathy Bryden; Elaine McKinnon, Lynne Switzer-Geesen, Diane Beals, Roberta French; Fay Jackson, Edith Rishefski, Joan Radmacher, Maxine Moleski.

8-Ender at the Tartan
Bill Houston, Jim Burgess, Doug Hopkie, and Mike Weatherald scored an eight ender during the Tuesday Night league at the Tartan.  The team will be recognized by the SCA, CCA, and Asham.  Congratulations from the Tartan Curling Club Staff and Directors.
McEachern Wins City Mixed
The Tartan's, Murray McEachern, Carla Rokochy, Brad Law, and Susan Hoffart have won the 2008 City Mixed Playdowns in Regina.  Team McEachern defeated Team Ackerman 9-4 to advance to the Provincials at the Saskatoon Sutherland on March 12th to 16th.  McEachern advanced to the final with a win in the Semi-Final against John Vallance.  To make the Final Ackerman defeated Team Law in the 1st vs 1st page playoff game.  Team Ackerman consists of Jason Ackerman, Amber Holland, Andrew Foreman, and Coleen Ackerman.    Click here for standings, schedules and results for the event.
SKJERDAL Wins Juvenile Playdowns

Team Skjerdal has won the 2008 City Juvenile Playdown's.  Skjerdal won the A-Event to advance to the FInal and defeated Donison in the Final.  Five teams played in three events to qualify for the Championship Round on Sunday.  The B and C Event winners played first with the winner moving on to face the A Event Winner.  The teams were Haines, Skjerdal, Lang, Hubick, and Donison.  Click Here to see the Draw for the 2008 Regina Juvenile Playdowns.

2008 Tartan Club Championships

The Tartan Club Champions are Kevin Anderson in Tier 1 and Keith Bjorndahl in Tier 2.  Team Anderson (top picture) from left to right: Kevin Anderson, Gerald Seidle, Glenn Jones, and Peter Adair.  Team Bjorndahl (bottom picture) from left to right: Tony Yanick, Dave Duke (subbing for Dave Mackie), Larry Hewitt, and Keith Bjorndahl.  The Tier 2 B Event was won by Mike Donison who defeated Stephen Locke.  In Tier 1 B Event Ken Petruic and Mike Fisher split.  A total of 28 teams entered the Championship, 16 in Tier 1 and 12 in Tier 2.  Prizes were awarded to the A Event winners, B Event winners and B Event losers in the double knockout spiels.  Click on the links below to view the results:

Regina Ladies Bonspiel

The 2008 Regina Ladies Bonspiel was held at the Tartan Friday November 14th to Sunday November 16th.  There were 21 teams entered in the spiel. Each team had 4 games. A point system was used to determine rankings. Then the top 8 teams played Sunday at 5:00 pm in the Finals. Results were:

  • A EVENT: Carla Rokochy (1st in Round Robin) vs Sharon Gimas (2nd) TIE
  • B EVENT: Laurie Ell (4th) defeated Joan Radmacher (3rd)
  • C EVENT: Carol Christoper (5th) vs Anita Ford (6th) TIE
  • D EVENT: Linda Kloschinsky beat Connie McIntyre  
Simmons Defeated Englot

Simmons defeated Englot in two close games at the Tartan Curling Club on Saturday March 29th.  Pat Simmons and his 2008 Provincial Men's Championship Team took on Michelle Englot and her 2008 Women's Provincial Championship Team in preparation for the Tylenol Players Championships.  Team Simmons ran Team Englot out of rocks in Game One of the two exibition games, and Pat made a short runback to defeat the ladies in Game Two.  The Men's and Women's World Curling Tour Players Championships will run from April 16th to 20th in St. John's, Newfoundland.  Good Luck Team Englot, Team Simmons and to all the Saskatchewan teams.

Valley Girls' @ the Tartan
The Tartan will have new faces in the Kitchen this season.  Valley Girls' Catering Inc. will take over the kitchen duties in place of Linda Bordass, who has retired.  The Valley Girls are well known for their ventures at the Deer Valley Golf Course, at the Brickhouse Bistro in Lumsden, at the Regina Beach Yacht Club, and at Currie Field.  The Valley Girls' @ the Tartan will be catering the steak dinner at the Tartan's golf tournament September 6th.  That will be a great chance for you to preview the food services that will be featured at the Tartan next season.
Men's City Playdowns

The Rick Schneider team from the Tartan Curling Club defeated Dale Beare in a C-Event Qualifier at the Callie Club Sunday night.  Team Schneider stole single points in the 9th and 10th end to edge out the Beare rink 6 to 5.  Rick Schneider will be joined by Glen Despins (A Qualifier), Randy Bryden (B Qualifier), and Andrew Edgar (C Qualifier) at the Southern SaskTel Playdowns are to be held in Melville January 17th to 20th.  The top five teams from that event will qualify for the Provincial Sasktel Tankard in Balgonie from February 6th to 10th.   Good Luck to ALL the Regina Teams!

New SCPA Executive Members

Saskatchewan Curling Players' Association members have selected the three new members of the executive.  Derek Boe, Scott Comfort, and Dean Vey will join the Darren Camm, Joel Jordison, and Jack Brower on the SCPA Executive.  SCPA memners casted their votes for the 3 members via email before April 30th.  The executive will be sending three members to the SCA planning meeting in Yorkton to make recommendations to the SCA on behalf of the curlers.

New Tartan Office Manager
Ron Sanders, Manager of  the Tartan Curling Club is pleased to announce that the Club has successfully filled the additional position of Office Manager. The position has been awarded to Mr. Scott Comfort who will assume duties effective November 26, 2007.
 
Scott brings with him a wealth of experience in curling administration and operations as well as a passion for the sport.  This, along with his marketing work with the University of Regina Rams and On Course Marketing, makes him ideally suited for the job.

 
Women's Playdowns

The Tartan's Angela Gordon and Michelle Englot teams have qualified for Provincial SaskPower Scotties in the Battlefords on January 23rd to 27th.  Team Gordon defeated Jolene McIvor in the A-Event Qualifier while Team Englot defeated another Tartan team, Chantelle Eberle, in a C-Event Qualifier to move on to Provincials.  Gordon and Englot join a strong Provincial field including Amber Holland, Linda Burnham, Ros Stewart, Rene Miettinen, Cathy Trowell, Sherry Anderson, and Stephanie Lawton.  Good luck to the Regina Teams. 

A Hearti Send Off for Team Englot

The Tartan Curling Club hosted a Send Off for the Englot Team on Monday February 11th at 7:00 PM.  Everyone in attendance enjoyed the evening.  Team Englot is off to the 2008 Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Brandt Center February 16th to 24th.  Team Saskatchewan includes Michelle Englot, Darlene Kidd, Roberta Materi, and Cindy Simmons. 

The 2008 SaskPower Scotties Tournament of Hearts Provincial Women's Curling Champions, Team Englot, defeated Stephanie Lawton 5 to 4 at the North Battleford Civic Center Sunday, January 27th.  The Tartan's Michelle Englot has qualified for the Playoffs being tied for first with Stewart and Lawton.  Englot won her way into the final with a first place finish in the round robin.  The Scotties Canadian Championships are in Regina February 16th to 24th.  Contact the Tartan for ticket information.

WCT Players Championship

Regina's Amber Holland Team will face Krista McCarville in Women's Final of the WCT Tylenol Players Championship.  On the Men's side Davidson's Pat Simmons has qualified and will face Wayne Middaugh in the quarterfinals. 

The Men's and Women's WCT Tylenol Player's Championship is being shown on www.cbc.ca/sports/curling.  Games will be shown all week.  The Men's and Women's Finals will be shown on CBC television.  The Women's Final will be on CBC Saturday at 1:00 PM and the Men's Final will be on CBC on Sunday.  Good luck to the Tartan's Team Englot, and all the Saskatchewan teams.
